Highway Productions was founded in 1999 by George Lykiardopoulos, an independent producer. During its first years of operation it collaborated with one of the largest theatrical distributors in Greece: Prooptiki SA and its production company Attika SA, producing several feature films and a European co production.
Since 2003, Highway Productions has ventured independently producing many short and feature films that have participated in international festivals and have been sold in various territories worldwide.
Highway Productions aims to work with the new and promising generation of Greek filmmakers, as well as maintain an ever creative relationship with established directors who entrust us with their latest projects. The films in interest are usually of current issues of the times such as human relations, social concerns, immigration, etc., produced in a way that will attract the younger generation audiences who are also the predominant film-goers.
Our main concern is to produce films that will travel abroad and meet an international audience as well as provide servicing for foreign productions who wish to shoot in Greece. To that respect, it is our priority to maintain an open communication and co-operation with international production companies in our effort to secure the means, production value and independency of our vision.
Highway & Theatre
At the same time, our great interest for the theatre has led to the creation of the theatrical department of Highway Productions with the productions of Tape and Stahti sta Matia (Crazy Eyes) directed by Laya Giourgou and of Festen directed by Aliki Danezi-Knutsen.
In 2007 we joined forces with Constantine Markoulakis to create the Cultural Organization CoYoT to be housed for five years at theatre Hora. Highway Productions has produced and co-produced many plays for the stages of theatre Hora, thus creating a solid base of cultural activity and association with well-known and up-and-coming artists. CoYoT’s first year of existence at theatre Hora 2007-2008 resulted in a great deal of activity with innovative, educational and entertaining qualities and the programme for 2008-9 looks even more exciting
Highway Productions’ main goal is remain contemporary in every level and form, with theatre productions and other modern, entertaining and useful activities that attract not only the main theatre-going public, but also people who don’t usually choose theatre as their fun night out. |
